Both leaders have arrived in Singapore in preparation for their much anticipated, historic first encounter.

Some critics have said the summit is being rushed through, with Trump keen to chalk up his first major foreign policy achievement.

It is unclear, however, under what terms North Korea would agree to in an effort to reduce its nuclear arsenal.

The two leaders are staying in separate hotels, not far from each other. The official meeting kicks off Tuesday morning, June 12.

The art of the unconventional deal?

. "I wish that the summit works out well so that peace comes to the Korean Peninsula", said Cho Ik-Sung, a doctor who lives in Seoul.

"All I can say is I am totally prepared to walk away", he said on Thursday. There was no need to.

"There is no military solution to the problem on the Korean Peninsula", he said. "How dare they do so, they shouldn't", the official told Reuters later.

"The minimum would be a relationship - you'd start at least a dialogue", Mr Trump added, when asked about outcomes. "There's probably an even better chance it will take a period of time".

What did North Korea say?

Apart from breaking a year-long deadlock on nuclear negotiations, Pyongyang also eyes an overall improvement of the US-North Korea bilateral ties and "other issues of mutual concern as required by the changed era", KCNA reported, adding that the delegations will share "wide-ranging and profound views on the issue of establishing new DPRK-US relations". He has only publicly left his country three times since taking power after his father's death in late 2011 - twice travelling to China and once across his shared border with the South to the southern part of the DMZ in recent summits with the leaders of China and South Korea respectively.

US President Donald Trump trusts his deal-making intuition to prepare for talks with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

Arriving on a plane loaned by China, Kim was also greeted by Balakrishnan.

Mr Kim was driven to the city centre on Sunday in a stretch Mercedes-Benz limousine accompanied by a convoy of more than 20 vehicles.

Trump is expected to hold talks with Lee on Monday.

"North Korea has no reason to believe that the US would be willing or able to defend it from China", said Hugh White, an Australian defense strategist.

The men have tie-ups with several local businesses and will also make an appearance at a seafood restaurant. The White House would likely want a faster timeline. Soon after, Mr Kim declared that his country had achieved its mission of becoming a nuclear state, with missiles that could reach the US.

When he previously appeared at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in South Korea with the same Donald Trump lookalike, he was escorted out by security after waving and dancing in front of North Korea's cheerleaders.

Kim feted as a world leader, exactly as he wants.

Trump and Kim arrived in Singapore hours apart Sunday.

Ms Serena Lim, 58, who is in the property industry, said: "It's an honour that Singapore was chosen to host the summit". But after some diplomatic scrambling, the two leaders will now sit down together.
