Quickly becoming the transfer saga nobody wanted, Liverpool's pursuit of Lyon's Nabil Fekir appears to be at an end.

Lyon indicated on Saturday that captain Nabil Fekir will be staying at the club after breaking off transfer negotiations with Liverpool.

The France worldwide was expected to join Jurgen Klopp's side before Les Bleus left for the World Cup, but Lyon have now halted talks and called off the deal.

According to reports from L'Equipe, the star attacker will move to the Premier League for a fee of a staggering €65m, which could potentially increase as much as €72m due to added bonuses.

"He's in the middle of negotiations and I think it's done", he said.

Known for his outstanding technical abilities, the 24-year-old will prove to be a fantastic addition to this Liverpool team, who have shown tremendous potential over the past few months.

"That means "give us some more money, and you can have him".

"And when it comes down to it, it's all about the price tag". He goes past people, he creates, he was part of the goal Mbappe scored.

The French global, who is now with France national team ahead of the World Cup in Russian Federation, has been heavily linked with the Merseyside club, with reports suggesting a deal had been struck earlier this week.

Fekir had been one of Liverpool's prime targets this summer as they looked to shore up their midfield and the club were willing to offer up to €55 million, plus another €5m in add-ons, for the France worldwide.

"In this period of transfers where the slightest rumour is often presented as a reality, Olympique Lyonnais recalls that only the information disseminated by the club on its website is authentic". He'd even conducted an interview with the club's in-house tv channel, seemingly explaining the leaked photo of him which did the rounds on Friday.
