The companies made this announcement at the EA Play event in Hollywood today as part of a reintroduction of Battlefield V to fans.
Battlefield 5 will have a new Battle Royale mode to rival Call of Duty Black Ops 4's new Blackout mode. Both heavy hitters of the first-person shooter world have officially been announced with Battle Royale modes.
Electronic Arts and developer DICE confirmed that Battlefield V is getting a battle royale mode at some point in the future.
This is new territory for the Battlefield series, which has traditionally done team-based multiplayer where there is no lack of resources for players.
Take on classic modes like Conquest or experiences like Grand Operations, where you'll participate in vast historical battles across multiple maps - and modes - and relive moments of bravery and desperation while fighting your way to the final objective.
"It will be unlike anything you've played before, and we'll have more to talk about later this year", the developers teased.
It was reiterated that Battlefield V will not include a premium pass program that the previous installments offered, and its release date is set for October 19, 2018. The developers also discussed how Battlefield V will feature more innovation, more impactful mechanics, and more freedom to customize your characters than ever before.
