One of the - many - overwhelming criticisms of the movie was Leto's lacklustre Joker, which, though little more than a glorified cameo, didn't quite measure up to the freaky tales from the movie's set. That film is being produced under a new banner separate from the DC Extended Universe, to which Jared Leto's Joker is part, along with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Ben Affleck's Batman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa's Aquaman, etc.
According to Variety, Jared Leto is set to star in and executive produce his very own Joker movie.
Variety adds that their are no plot details available for the Joker movie yet, but the current plan is that the movie will represent a path for other characters featured in Suicide Squad to get their own franchises.
A new standalone Joker movie starring Jared Leto is on the way. Leto's "Suicide Squad" incarnation was more cruel and self-assured, sporting slicked-back hair, face tattoos, and silver-capped fangs.
Despite this development, Kroll also seems to imply that the Todd Phillips' helmed Joker origin story with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and set in an Elseworld-type continuity apart from the DCU is still on the cards too. The character appeared in a glorified cameo in Suicide Squad, and the Oscar-winner had voiced his displeasure at being cut out of the film. For now, the movie is still in the early stages and is searching for a writer.
Leto was most recently seen in "Blade Runner: 2049" and Netflix's "The Outsider".
