First lady Melania Trump underwent a procedure to treat a benign kidney condition Monday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the White House said.

Trump is the first U.S. First Lady to undergo a serious medical procedure while in the White House since Nancy Reagan underwent a mastectomy in 1987, CNN reported.

President Donald Trump traveled again Tuesday to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside Washington, where his wife, Melania, is convalescing after a kidney procedure.

President Trump spoke with his wife before the procedure and talked to the doctor after it was completed. According to the statement, the procedure was successful, and Trump experienced no complications.

The White House has not offered any additional information about her condition, citing her privacy.

In embolization, doctors insert a catheter as part of a procedure to purposely block a blood vessel and cut off the blood supply to the affected area.

Mrs. Trump has, at times, has been noticeably absent from her husband's side.

Last week, Trump gave a speech in the Rose Garden to announce a new campaign that she's calling "Be Best".
