Maharashtra's Specialist Specialist IPS Officer Himanshu Roy has committed suicide.

Born on June 23, 1963, Roy grew up in Colaba.

On May 21, 2013, a Mumbai Police team led by Roy arrested Bollywood actor and ex-Bigg Boss contestant Vindu Dara Singh for suspected links with the spot-fixing scam in the 2013 Indian Premiere League (IPL) tournament. He also investigated murder of Laila Khan and 5 other relatives at family's Igatpuri house.

Roy started his police career as Superintendent of Police (Rural) in Nashik and Ahmednagar. He is also credited with setting up Mumbai's Cyber Crime cell. He continued to work while under treatment. Former Mumbai Police commissioner Arup Patnaik, who had last month joined Biju Janata Dal, said that Roy, his junior, had approached him around three months ago and sought the number of a renowned Mumbai-based oncosurgeon.

Speaking after Roy's death, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis while making a statement on Friday said, "He was known as a daring officer and had held many important positions".
