India and Sweden announce partnership on cyber security, Modi meets Swedish CEOs

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven, who was also present at the event, said Sweden highly values its partnership with India.

Both Prime Ministers reiterated their commitment to dialogue and cooperation on key international issues of mutual concern, including climate change, Agenda 2030, international peace and security, human rights, gender equality, humanitarian issues, international trade.The Prime Ministers underlined the urgency to step up global efforts to combat climate change, and emphasized their common continued commitment to the Paris Agreement.

PM Modi was received at the airport by his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven.

This is the first prime ministerial visit from India to Sweden in 30 years after the visit of Rajiv Gandhi in 1988.

Later in a Tweet, MEA spokesperson said "There are excellent opportunities for cooperation in the fields of smart cities, clean technology, universal housing, renewable energy, e-mobility, start-up, waste disposal, and many others with an objective of creating jobs and sustainable development for our people in India".

PM Modi is in Sweden on the first leg of his 5-day foreign tour which will also take him to the United Kingdom where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Sweden and India will strengthen their cooperation on defence, their prime ministers said on Tuesday, a move that could aid Sweden's Saab in its bid to sell its Gripen jet to replace India's Soviet-era MiG fighters. "Presently, there is a government in India which for the country's prestige, self respect and taking it to new heights in the 21st century, is working day and night", Modi said amidst loud cheers from the audience.

On his return journey from Britain on April 20, he will stop in Germany to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
