76ers star Joel Embiid taken to hospital after Thursday's win vs Knicks

At first, the injury didn't seem like that big of a deal after the Sixers announced the All-Star would miss at least the next two games, but it appears there may be additional reasons for concern over Embiid if the injury is more serious than expected. Only two games into his return from a perplexingly long absence, the 76ers guard accidentally knocked heads with teammate Joel Embiid, sending Philadelphia's star center to the hospital. He will undoubtedly be tested for concussion-like symptoms and could enter the NBA's concussion protocol if those symptoms arise and persist.

Embiid immediately hit the floor as the entire city of Philadelphia held it's breath. He was taken to a local hospital to undergo further evaluation Wednesday evening, and was not released until sometime on Thursday afternoon. After laying on the court for several minutes and then sitting up, Embiid was eventually taken back to the locker room with help.

Fultz was not injured on the play.

"I'm really anxious about him", said Fultz after the game. "My heart dropped. He's a tough guy". Before exiting, Embiid recorded five points and three rebounds in nine minutes. However, his teammate's condition was on his mind as he gave comments about the in-game crash he was part of, and also tweeted out he was keeping him in his thoughts and prayers.

The 76ers (44-30) have already clinched an Eastern Conference playoff spot. "All I can do is pray for him".
