Mike Fisher ends retirement, returns to Nashville Predators

Almost six months after announcing his retirement, Carrie Underwood's husband Mike Fisher will be returning to the Nashville Predators.

McKenzie also added that Fisher should join the team "sometime between now and the February 26 trade deadline/roster setting".

No specific timetable was given for Fisher's return to game action. Last season, he had seven goals and 17 points on the power play, leading the team in the former and trailing only Johansen in the latter. "After I retired, I was done and that's what I felt like was the right decision then".

"Carrie kept asking me nearly every day what I was going to do".

While Fisher is headed back on the ice, Poile assured the team and press that he would be offering his skills and support to the Preds, but would not take back his position as team captain, whichh now belongs to defenseman Roman Josi. He joined Nashville during the 2010 season.

Fisher's un-retirement won't be long-lasting.

"This is happening! Fish is back", Underwood tweeted. Not from Fisher himself, not from coach Peter Laviolette and certainly not from Poile, who didn't question for a second whether or not the comeback bid would work.

I'm sure it has to do with the Chicago Blackhawks not playing consistent hockey for most of the first half of the season, but I've never remembered following any sport that has been tracking the Wild Card Spots before the All-Star break like the NHL has this season.

Fisher originally announced his retirement last August after 17 seasons with the league.

"We getting a terrific person back in our locker room, and a terrific player", Laviolette said.

"I'm still a little out of breath from the skate, but it's great to be back", Fisher said at a news conference. He's still going to be a clever two-way player with some offensive acumen, even if his best days are behind him and even if his zero-goal, four-assist performance in the playoffs would hint that his offense has dried up. He played in 20 of the Predators' 22 post-season games last spring in winning their first Western Conference title. "I believe I can contribute and play and come back and help this team whatever that role is".
