Pizza Hut testing beer delivery in Phoenix

The service will debut in Phoenix, Ariz. with six packs of Anheuser-Busch beer brands, such as Budweiser and Shock Top.

If you're the kind of person who thinks Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are a great couple but nothing in comparison to combination of pizza and wine, you're going to absolutely swoon over this news break: Pizza Hut is now delivering beer and wine - starting now.

A spokeswoman told Fortune that 1,700 out of Pizza Hut's 6,300 USA locations already have liquor licenses.

When it expands the program beyond Phoenix, Pizza Hut expects to vary the menu according to regional preferences, a company executive told CNBC.

"The company's delivery system and allows Pizza Hut to eliminate any third-party vendor to provide a smoother, faster delivery experience", said Pizza Hut in a statement.

Pizza Hut will also have to make sure that all its drivers that deliver beer and wine are 21 years of age or older.


The deliveries started Tuesday with an assortment of beer, McWilliams said.

As CNN points out, Pizza Hut would be the first pizza chain of that caliber to offer booze as a delivery option, as Papa John's and Domino's only offer family-friendly beverages on their delivery menus.

While beer and wine delivery pilot is beginning with just one downtown Phoenix location.

Pizza Hut is thinking outside of the pizza box in an effort to boost sales.

Owned by Yum! Brand, CNN notes that Pizza Hut is performing worse than the company's other chains, KFC and Taco Bell.
