49ers' marked improvement on third down leads to win against Bears

In turn, the 49ers opted to roll out Jimmy Garoppolo for his first start with the team in Week 13, and the results were pretty impressive.

The difference Sunday was that one team was working with a starter-level quarterback.

Offense: Jimmy Garoppolo looked like he belonged at the helm of San Francisco's offense and made several, high-degree-of-difficulty passes in traffic to Marquise Goodwin and Trent Taylor in the 15-14 win over the Chicago Bears.

Safety Adrian Colbert returned to action Sunday and played every snap after missing just one game after undergoing thumb surgery during the bye week.

"You always dream of it as a little kid", he said. "I can remember ever since I was in elementary school, really". If the NFL Network is part of your cable package, you can also live stream the game through the NFL app on XBox, Apple TV, or Roku device on your TV. "You don't know if it's going to come true or not but it's insane how things work out".

Garoppolo grew up a Bears fan but never attended an NFL game until he entered the league. Once to Louis Murphy and another to wide receiver Trent Taylor for 16- and 14-yard gains respectively. Beathard was injured late during the fourth quarter of the 49ers (1-10) loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12.

Chicago (3-9) lost its fifth straight game and dropped to 2-5 at home. He showed poise on the winning drive, leading San Francisco from its 8. They're going to have to cut down on the penalties and do a better job finishing drives if they're going to start to string wins together.

The 49ers take another road trip next week, this time to Houston. The final three games are against Tennessee, Jacksonville and the Los Angeles Rams.

"I thought it was a huge team win", 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said. He came in a short time (ago) and is helping us flip this thing around.

Gould pumped his right arm and screamed at the Chicago sideline after he kicked the victor. Seeing what he is capable of in the open field is a sight to behold. In 11 seasons with the Bears, he was 276 for 323.

Do not kick the ball to Chicago Bears rookie Tarik Cohen.

But what makes him special is the fact that he also has two rushing and a receiving touchdown this season.

Cohen initially ran about 15 yards back in the opposite direction before crossing left and finding an opening. And, naturally, they got exactly what they deserved: a loss.

"It'll be fun to get back and watch the tape", Shanahan said.

Early in the game, Garoppolo threw - with a Chicago defender bearing down on him - what appeared to be an ill-advised pass into triple coverage.

On the other side of the field, Chicago's top draft pick, Mitchell Trubisky, was 12-for-15 passing for 102 yards with an eight-yard touchdown.

"To come in here, get a win like that, and to get a game-winner, I don't think I could have written it any better to be honest with you", he said.
