Ohio State and USC, both winners of their respective conferences, were not admitted into the playoff.

Ohio State is returning to the stadium where the Buckeyes won the first College Football Playoff championship under the current system.

Alabama remained one of the favorites to win the championship even after its loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl that brought its postseason fate into doubt.

The victor of this year's game will face the Rose Bowl victor, either No. 2 Oklahoma or No. 3 Georgia, Jan. 8 in Atlanta to determine the national champion.

The Southeastern Conference has two teams in the playoff, this is the first time two teams from the same conference will be featured in the final four. It won the 2015 national championship game over Clemson before falling to the same Tiger program in 2016.

The Buckeyes beat an undefeated Wisconsin team in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday.

After months of anticipation, we have our four College Football Playoff teams.

The Sooners knocked off previous No. 11-TCU (10-3), 41-17, earlier Saturday, in Dallas, while the Bulldogs rallied from an early deficit to take revenge on previous-No. Clemson entered selection day with eight wins over teams with a.500 or better record, including victories over Auburn and Miami. And it was a pretty significant loss at that.

The culprit for the Buckeyes was a 31-point loss at Iowa on November 4, in addition to the 15-point home loss to No. 2 Oklahoma in September. "But I get it. Move forward and get around people you care about - your family and teammates".

Saban also re-emphasized Alabama's season-opening win over what was then-No. The Seminoles subsequently lost four of its next six games to begin the season 2-5. That is a matchup of 11-2 teams that have played each other in the Rose Bowl seven times. "I think our efforts to play more conference games, to schedule up to a reasonable degree, to reduce the number of mismatches should serve us well".

As a result, there was a pretty reasonable consensus across the college football polls for Badger football.
