Windsor Fire Chief Jack Piccinini said that almost every one of Sonoma County's fire resources is being used, but it is not enough.

"These fires have destroyed structures and continue to threaten thousands of homes, necessitating the evacuation of thousands of residents", the proclamation said.

Belia Ramos, chairwoman of the Napa County Board of Supervisors, said officials did not yet have a count on how many properties were affected, either by the fire directly or by evacuations.

Mandatory evacuation were for homes on Atlas Peak Road, including Silverado Country Club; Knights Valley to Tubbs Lane in Calistoga; Partrick Road; Monticello Road to Circle Oaks Subdivision; the Montecito area of Napa and Soda Canyon Road.

The only positive news is that fire officials have said that the high winds of last night have died down for the time being, but they are expected to kick up again around sundown, meaning that fast containment is vital.

Wesley Carr, 23, a resident of Sebastopol in Sonoma County, said on Monday morning that smoke from the fires had enveloped the area.

Patients at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa were being removed early Monday morning, according to NBC Bay Area reporter Laura Garcia.

Several evacuation centers have been set up, but many have already reached capacity. Fire officials say at least 1,500 structures have burned in five of those blazes.

Piccinni said nearly all of Sonoma County's fire assets were being utilized. Highway 101 and Highway 12 were closed.

The city of Santa Rosa, a popular hub for wine enthusiasts, is facing some of the worst damage from the fires.

"The sun is a pale yellow, that's how thick the smoke is", he said, adding that ash is floating in the air from one of the fires, which he estimated is about 30 miles away. Mandatory evacuations are in effect in several areas and almost 20 shelters have opened from Cloverdale to Petaluma and from Guerneville to Sonoma. Authorities also are setting up a place for residents to evacuate their horses. The Anaheim Fire Department said the burst was being pushed by 25 miles per hour winds.

"Very, very volatile fire conditions", McLean said.

Community centers, the Sonoma County Fairgrounds and other local centers were opened for evacuees. KPIX reported flames near the Domaine Carneros winery.

At least one person lost their life as the Redwood Complex Fire snatched up 4,500 acres in flames.
